Special Gifts for Moms and Dads

Hello everybody!

It’s getting to be that time of year where we honor our mothers and fathers on their special days. If you feel that giving them more “stuff” or flowers is no longer appreciated or necessary, the office of gift planning would like to introduce an alternative gift to honor that special parent in your life.

Like we listed on our site:

Giving gifts to honor your parents on Mother's Day and Father's Day is a longstanding U.S. tradition. Yet it may also be time-consuming and create more than a little stress. As the years pass, it's not always easy to find that perfect gift.

This year, consider an alternative-and an innovative-gift idea. Pay tribute to a parent by making a donation to a charitable organization such as Colorado State University Foundation in his or her name.

There are many reasons why this type of gift might be appreciated. Perhaps your mother feels she already has enough "things" and would enjoy helping the needy or less fortunate. Your father may remember the support he received in a time of need and want to help someone else in return.

Regardless, there is sure to be a charitable gift that fits the needs of every parent. The gift could even benefit a particular charitable organization that shares the same beliefs, values and ideals as the parent.

Mother's Day and Father's Day charitable gifts can also be made in memory of a deceased parent, or in honor of the grandparent or aunt or uncle who filled one of these important roles.

Consider making a collective family gift. By making a large initial gift to establish an endowment, your gift can keep on giving forever—and your parent(s) will forever be remembered.

Mother's Day was proclaimed a U.S. national holiday in 1914, and Father's Day became official in 1966. Why not make this the year that your family adopts charitable giving as a focus of both of these holidays?

The Annual Frontier Society Luncheon

Hello everybody!

What a great time of year we are entering now, warm weather and summer is upon us. It’s also that time of year where we all gather to honor a special college or department here at Colorado State University at the annual Frontier Society Luncheon.

The Frontier Society is a special club of CSU donors who give $1,870 annually to CSU. Each and every member is invited to celebrate the University at the annual Frontier Society Luncheon featuring guest speakers, a special presentation and of course, a free lunch!

This years Frontier Society Luncheon will highlight the Department of Home Economics and their history over the past 115 years. The event will be held at the Fort Collins Country on May 27th at 11 a.m.

Last year’s event was an outstanding success and we look to continue that this year. I was the closing speaker at last year’s event and apparently did a good enough job to earn that role once again this year and I am excited to have the opportunity to address a great group of donors.

If you would like to learn more about the Frontier Society and how you can donate to CSU, please visit us at www.plannedgiving.colostate.edu/frontiersociety.

My trip to Madison Wisconsin

Hello everybody!

Let me tell you all what a great time I had visiting Madison this past week. Great people everywhere and great cheese!

I was able to meet with many alumni from Colorado State and share in their stories about the great experiences they had at CSU. I always enjoy hearing from alumni and hope to learn from them how to make CSU better.

In addition, I was able to visit with a special group of donors to CSU, the blue chip donors. Blue chip donors are a group of alumni and friends of the university that have given annually to CSU for each of the past 10 years or longer. What a special and proud group they were! In total they were 129 blue chip members in the Madison area. It is always a privilege to hear from the blue chips and listen to what made CSU a special place for them. I hope to make it back to Madison in the near future and look forward to keeping in touch with all donors in Wisconsin.

If you are interested in giving to CSU and working on your way to becoming a blue chip donor, please visit www.plannedgiving.colostate.edu and learn more about the office of Gift Planning.

My next blue chip trip will be this summer to Austin, TX and I can only hope it is half as much fun as my trip to Madison!

Thanks for visiting my blog and I look forward to hearing from you all in the future!
